We rely on the goodwill, expertise and time of many members of our community to operate The Haven. In fact, volunteers provide over 900 hours of service to us EVERY MONTH! We are grateful for their involvement and assistance.
Volunteers who work in Kay’s Kitchen generally serve a 3-4 hour shift helping to prepare, serve and clean up after a breakfast meal. Volunteers arrive between 6:30am-7:30am to put together our locally-sourced breakfast. Some people volunteer on their own for this shift, others volunteer in teams. At least one family volunteers together to make breakfast for our guests one day per month!
Day Haven Volunteers
Day Haven volunteers serve two hour shifts throughout the morning. While each shift looks different based on the time of day and season, Day Haven volunteers help staff the Welcome Desk, providing guests access to showers, storage, computers, the phone and laundry; and helping direct guests to the various service providers in the building. There are roles for people who like to be efficient and productive and there are roles for people who prefer to connect to our guests informally. We frequently have card and board games in our dining room that include guests, volunteers and staff!
You can also volunteer to tend our community garden, do laundry, make granola, pick up donations, perform maintenance in our building or help guests as they transition into housing!
