Help Portrait Charlottesville 2010

When: Saturday, December 4, 2010 from 9am – 8pm

Where: The Haven  at 112 West Market Street

Who: Provided by an army of local amateur and professional photographers around Charlottesville, as well as others who want to help.

Why: To provide Charlottesville’s less fortunate witha  professional photo in time for the holiday season and contribute simultaneously to a global network of volunteer photographers. We ask nothing in return – only the chance to serve.

FAQs:

1) When will I get my picture?  Along with the photographers, we will have the staff on hand to deliver the printed photo directly to you shortly after the picture is taken. You will leave The Haven with your picture in hand.

2) How many pictures will I get?  To make sure we are able to serve everyone, we can only promise one print to each person that comes through the door.

3) I have a family of 8, can we all get it done at the same time? Yes. We highly encourage group family photos.

April Verch Band is doing a benefit concert for us! The April Verch Band is a trio of fabulous musicians playing the banjo, upright electric bass, guitar and fiddle. They play a terrific variety of traditional Canadian fiddle music, old school and modern folk songs, and mainstream stuff. April Verch is a champion fiddle player and stepdancer. These folks always get their audience on their feet!

October 8, 2010 The Sanctuary at The Haven, Suggested Donation $17 at the door

There’s No Place Like Home is a unique evening of art, music and community that will serve as our signature fundraiser. Art from local artists and guests, staff and volunteers of The Haven will be displayed or performed and auctioned off to benefit our programming. Should be a wonderful evening!

Christmas at The Haven is a musical variety show full of fabulous musical acts. In 2009, several area choirs sang in gorgeous harmony and local musicians played the guitar, the violin and even the xylophone! The 2010 promises to be equally compelling & engaging! Many thanks for Isaac Wardell, Bifrost Arts and the New City Arts Initiative for producing this show for us.

Stay tuned for this year’s date

Thank you!

We are grateful for the dedication and time of our wonderful volunteers! They provide over 900 hours of service every month, teach yoga, lead a drumming circle, find warm mittens for cold guests, and offer a warm smile to all who enter. Thank you!
