THANK YOU FOR DROPPING BY AT THE HAVE AT FIRST AND MARKET! WE ARE LOOKING TO HAVING YOU AS A PARTNER IN PROVIDING A SHELTER TO HOMELESS INDIVIDUALS, AND TO SIGNIFICANTLY LESSENING THE NUMBER OF HOMELESS PEOPLE IN OUR REGION
One of the most basic needs of every individual is a home to live in. Not only does this provide physical interference against the weather and natural elements, it also ensures the safety and security of every individual. Lucky are those who are given the opportunity to have a nice home with all the important amenities, beautiful landscape, and nice garage door in the middle of a ritzy neighborhood in Milwaukee, WI.
It is unfortunate however, that there are times when individuals do not have access to this. This may be due to unavoidable circumstances, but nonetheless, it creates a need to be addressed. This is because the number of homeless people is growing at an alarming rate.
Why do people become homeless?
There is no single reason that tells us why more and more people have been hitting our radars. During the conversation we had with some of the people we have relocated, the most prevalent reason was because they were thrown out due to their inability to pay for mortgages.
There were kids as young as 10 who were forced to run away due to the abuse they endure at home. Being at the age, not even at the right age to find a job for themselves, they are left to roam the streets day and night. There are also teenagers who claimed to being thrown out due to some petty reasons or another. This including coming out to their parents who do not have the understanding to accept it. While others are simply a victim of circumstance, who since time immemorial, have lived in the streets.
Addressing the problem
By understanding this dilemma did the need for the Thomas Jefferson Area Coalition for the Homeless (TJACH) was established. This, with the right partners, we’re able to make the wrong right, and plan a strategic solution that would be beneficial for the whole community. We create a better living arrangement for the homeless, and work toward that day where homelessness becomes just a product of the past.
TJACH do not just provide a solution, we perform interventions as well. We provide a means for a more permanent and stable settlement other than let problems like possible displacement land people on the streets. We allow individuals and families to pay for this in a more flexible manner while at the same time, providing them a means to pay through livelihood projects of partner organizations, and the likes. For children, we provide scholarships for education up to the secondary level. We also offer all-expense paid scholarship to those brilliant and hardworking students who want to go further in colleges in universities.
By addressing first the basic needs of homeless individuals, we believe that we are also giving the society a new hope that would sustain them long term.
